3M™ NOVEC™ 7100

One component solvent

Description

3M™ NOVEC™ 7100, methoxy-nonfluorobutane (C4F9OCH3), is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid.

Developed by 3M to replace ozone destructive substances (ODS) and solvents with high global warming potential (GWP) in many applications.

Has one of the best toxicological profiles among halogenated solvents, with a time-weighted average exposure limit of 750 ppm (eight-hour weighted average).

The high boiling point and low surface tension of 3M™ NOVEC™ 7100 fluid make it ideal for vapor phase degreasing either pure (undiluted), in an azeotropic mixture (with alcohol) or used in conjunction with a co-solvent from the TOPKLEAN™ range.

Its chemical and thermal stability, non-flammability and low toxicity make it useful for many other industrial and Heat Transfer applications.

As an equivalent alternative, PROMOSOLV™ DR3 is available.

Features:

Tests have shown compatibility of 3M™ NOVEC™ 7100 with a wide range of metals, plastics and elastomers and a performance similar to that of perfluorinated fluids.

In addition, good compatibility was found with particularly sensitive plastics such as polycarbonate and PMMA, thus showing good use of the product for washing assemblies containing numerous metals and composites.

Like most perfluorinated liquids, 3M™ NOVEC™ 7100 is absorbed into perfluorinated plastics and elastomers under prolonged exposure conditions.

  • Washing and rinsing agent: heavy dirt washing (co-solvent) heavy oils, greases and fluxes; medium dirt washing (azeotropic) oils, greases and waxes; light dirt washing (pure) particulates, fluorolubricants, light oils, fluoropolymers
  • Carriers for deposition of lubricants
  • Special solvents, dispersion media, reaction media
  • Heat transmission
  • Spray cleaning of contacts
  • Alternative product to CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs and PFCs.
